Help for StartPic version 0.02 (21st March 1998)
How to Install StartPic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To use the supplied example start up picture simply double click the Install
file supplied in this archive, this copies the StartPic directory into
your PreDesk directory.
To change the startup banner you have to edit the !Run file inside StartPic,
there are no command line options at the minute. It just loads the file
passed to it if it is a sprite, this obviously does not have to be inside
the StartPic directory.
If you do not want to manually go through your !Boot dir the OpenStartP
Obey file opens StartPic's directory inside the boot dir.
What sprites does the StartPic module recognise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
StartPic can recognise new sprites, and handles sprites from 1bpp to 24bpp.
The space needed for a pixel translation table is added to the dynamic area
the sprite is loaded into. Which is freed as soon as the sprite is displayed.
If things go wrong
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If StartPic crashes your machine and leaves you outside the desktop you
can get back into the desktop by typing *desktop, but your machine will not
have started correctly so you must modify StartPic's !Run file before
reseting your machine.
If StartPic does not crash, but leaves a dynamic area this will be removed if
you RMKill StartPic.
If the original startup banner is displayed and the sprite is okay, the pathname
is probably incorrect.
Please contact me at Duncan@utopia.foobar.co.uk with details if you think
it is a problem with the StartPic module.
Future Versions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some command line options will hopefully be added to the next version of
StartPic so you can specify your own start up text, font, colours etc...
